Black Lives Matter Beyond Borders: Reflections from Building a Global Movement

Rodney Diverlus, Patrisse Khan-Cullors & Janaya Khan

Globally, Black American continues to be synonymous for Black. To reduce to one ethnicized version of Black only limits our ability to learn from other Black communities that are actively and have actively resisted: Nigerian, Congolese, Haitian, Trinidadian, Jamaican, etc.

This editorial feature is a conversation between three Black cultural producers, activists, and co-founders within the Black Lives Matter movement: @rodneydiverlus, @osopepatrisse, and @janayathefuture. They discuss what they view as the initial origins, impacts, and legacy of Black Lives Matter’s work in Canada, the first iteration of Black Lives Matter outside of the United States.

It’s one of my favourite discussions on this subject.
